Big Mike & DJ Thoro Present Cassidy “Apply Pressure 2” Mixtape

Release Date: February 4th, 2010

Album: Apply Pressure 2 Mixtape

Rating: N/A

Review: Following an Intro that lets you know this mixtape is a movie, Cassidy spits an 8 minute freestyle after a short skit that jokes about Cass being too lyrical. Cassidy definitely spits non-stop flame throughout this mixtape. Dome Pushed Back features Big L and is a decent listen. Check for Put Ya Dutch In The Air featuring Cassidy’s artist Jag. Hold Dat is a good lyrical jam featuring M.O.P., also listen to the laid-back Over And Over Again as Cass lists his vices and his desire not to give in to them despite the fact that they keep happening “over and over again.” Cassidy’s artists Ar-Ab and Jag appear on several tracks including Mic Please, Always Strapped, Exhibit C, Hard To Survive, On To The Next One, I’m Ill, I Wanna Rock, Popular Demand, Whoa 2K10 and BlackOut. The freestyles appear toward the end of the tape and are enjoyable due to Cassidy’s unique flow. Check for Henny & Bacardi featuring Swizz Beats and definitely check the second half of the tape for the freestyles including Ride The Wave. Cassidy is readying “C.A.S.H.”, his fourth studio album that should drop sometime in 2010.

Album: Louisianimal Part 3 Mixtape

Rating: N/A

Review: Not to be out-shined by the the slew of recent bootleg Lil Wayne tapes on the circuit, Trap-A-Holics and DJ Thoro get back at it again with the 3rd edition of the Weezy mixtape series ‘Louisianimal’. Snap Ya Fingers features a 28 second snippet of a new track featuring T-Pain and Lil Wayne that sounds like it should be hot when released in full. Trey Songz and Shawty Lo are both featured on The Supplier, which has a tight melody over high pitch horns. As you might expect, the tape contains some tracks you’ve already heard on “The Dedication 3” and several other recent Wayne tapes. So, if you’re on top of the mixtape game, expect to hear some previously released material. Wayne’s snippet on Arab Money is absolute fire! Wayne also spits heart over the song Forever, performed originally by Chris Brown. Trap-A-Holics and DJ Thoro make frequent use of cutting snippets from Weezy verses off his current jams such as Can’t See Ya’ll, Arab Money, See You In My Nightmares, Swagger From Us, I’m So Paid and others! Lil Wayne also clarifies sarcastically that he wears skinny jeans so you can see his fat wallet! Overall, Louisianimal Part 3 is a hearty combination of “The Dedication 3” and “The Drought Is Over Part 6” along with some other new tracks thrown in for good measure. Features include Keyshia Cole, Jadakiss, Mack Maine, and The Game. The tape does an excellent job of compiling all of Wayne’s recent heat and spares the mixtape listener of the fluff and experimental-type material. “Red porsches, red portraits, red guns if you dare come near the fortress!”

Big Mike & DJ Thoro Present “Grand Theft Audio 8” Mixtape

Release Date: August 31, 2008

Album: Grand Theft Audio 8 Mixtape

Rating: N/A

Review: Big Mike & DJ Thoro remain true to their New York roots with Grand Theft Audio 8. The tape starts with a handful of remixes from Juelz Santana, who does a good job displaying his lyrical ability on remixes to Go Hard and Got Money. Max B continues to tear up the mixtape circuit with tracks like No, No, No. Check out Jadakiss’ one minute snippet Reppin’ Time. There’s a lot of D-Block on GTA 8 so you can expect quite a few tracks from Styles, Jada and Sheek. There are various snippets from Wayne on the tape too, such as Don’t Tell Me, with some real serious production. 50 Cent and LL Cool J’s new jam appears on the tape titled Heartbeat. There’s a couple tracks from The Game on here that are not on L.A.X.; be sure to check out the collaboration with Akon. Big Mike & DJ Thoro picked up a few new tracks and freestyles for Grand theft Audio 8 so the tape is legitimately fresh with some breaking music. T.I., Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Kanye hop on a remix from the popular Paper Planes track by M.I.A.; the remix is titled Swagger Like Us. Overall, this is a decent tape and good addition to the GTA series. Look out for a couple of the new Jeezy tracks as well coming at you off GTA8.

Big Mike & DJ Thoro Present “Grand Theft Audio 7” Mixtape

Release Date: August 22, 2008

Album: Grand Theft Audio 7 Mixtape

Rating: N/A

Review: Big Mike and DJ Thoro always put together solid mixtapes, especially with the Grand Theft Audio series! The tape blasts off with Go Hard and My President, two must listen to jams. Cassidy talks on what’s been going on with his raps and his struggles; he is still recovering from his accident and brain damage. On Apply Pressure, Cassidy also speaks on how he always gives the streets what they really want and doesn’t just make T-Pain auto tune tracks to make a single. Jim Jones has a few snippets on here and some remixes. Make sure to check out African Elephant by Dragon featuring Swizz Beats. Lil Wayne continues to grind in the studio day after day after day and one of his newer tracks Pussy Monster is on here… ladies watch out Wayne is the “pussy monster, the pussy pussy monster”. The new Ace Hood and Brisco joint titled I Don’t See Ya’ll goes hard as hell. The new freestyle from Cassidy and Corey Gunz is on here too titled Body Bagz. Cassidy says he’s been getting some criticism for his performance on that track… but that’s just Haters talking because Cassidy’s deliver is sick… or ill, not sick. Some other artists you’ll catch on GTA 7 include Young Jeezy, Jadakiss, Styles P, Nas, Whyteout, Remo Da Rapster, Styles & Large Amounts, Sheek Louch, Lloyd Banks, Chosen Few, Prymetime, Maino and Trey Songz.

Album: Grand Theft Audio 6 Mixtape

Rating: N/A

Review: DJ Big Mike and DJ Thoro get back at it with Grand Theft Audio 6 (“GTA 6”). Lil Wayne starts off the first couple tracks on the tape including the new joint So Many Guns, Ima Shoot One and the Holla At A Playa Remix featuring Jae Millz. Wayne is one of the biggest hustlers in the hip-hop game right now and he continues to produce fresh material at an alarming pace. Many of the popular remixes that are constantly recycled appear on this tape such as Put On and Hi Hater. Jadakiss continues to rip up tracks on the mixtape scene, make sure to check out his 1 Minute snippet titled Wassup. There are a couple of freestyles from Cassidy on the tape that display his unique style and his ability to speak on real life topics. There’s a new track from Nas on GTA 6 that was not on his recent album titled What It Is. My Life by The Game and Lil Wayne is also on here and is getting considerable attention throughout the mixtape circuit. Listen to the track and you’ll see why. Other artists appearing on GTA 6 include Whyteout, Max B, Remo Da Rapstar, Moxberg, Cam’ron, Papoose, and Lloyd Banks.
